이지숙은 도시와 그 인근에서 벌어지는 파괴와 재건이 반복되는 풍경들을 지켜보면서, 이러한 변화를 작동시키게 하는 잠재된 시공간의 응축된 힘을 드러내는데 관심을 두고 작업을 진행해 왔다. 전시의 제목인 『중간계』는 드러나서 보이는 변화의 층위와 아주 깊게 있어 보이지도 감지되지도 않는 층 사이의 단계를 말한다. 오랜 시간 지켜보고 관찰하지 않으면 감지되기 힘든, 현재의 변화를 발생하게 하고 일어나게 하는 ‘중간계’로 정의된 단계는 사진과 영상을 통해 시각화된다. 도시의 풍경에서 느껴지는 이질적인 감각이 가장 증폭되고 다양한 기호적 의미들이 뒤죽박죽 얽혀 있는 재개발 현장이 한 단계 더 깊은 차원의 순환을 드러내는 작품의 주된 배경으로 어떻게 재해석 되는지 확인하는 기회가 되길 바란다.

"Potential stage", the title of the exhibition, refers to a step between the layer of visible change and the layer of change that is neither visible nor detected. The steps defined as "Potential Stage", which causes the present change to occur and is hard to be detected unless it is observed for a long time, is visualized through photographs and images. Hopefully, the redevelopment site, where the disparate sense of the city's landscape is most amplified and intertwined with various symbolic meanings, will be an opportunity to see how it is reinterpreted as the main backdrop for works that reveal a deeper-level cycle. ■ Jisook Lee
